Why do our knees hurt?

Knee pain, 52% of people who suffer from joint pain complain about their knees, a figure that exceeds those who complain about their back (43%).

Knees are the joints that suffer the most inflammatory or degenerative problems, often sports injuries are also suffered in this part of the body. The legs and our knees support all the weight of our body and allow us to move.

Knee pain is one of the most common pains suffered by people of all ages. At some point in life, everyone (both men and women) will suffer some knee pain. These discomforts can be acute, with resolution in days or weeks, after a blow or a sudden turn, or they can appear progressively, as a consequence of the overuse of the joint or a serious injury causing chronic pain. As we get older, it is also a pain that occurs more frequently.

The knee joint is formed by three bones, the femur in its superior part and by the tibia and the fibula in its inferior part. The inside of the joint is lined with cartilage and two pieces called menisci, which act as shock absorbers for the pressures that occur when walking, running or jumping.

Synovial fluid lubricates our knees and joints. This fluid serves to cushion the bones and reduces muscle rubbing. The bones of the knee are held together by ligaments, tendons and muscles that help stabilize the joint.

So why do our knees hurt? Most problems affecting the knee come from damage to any of these structures.

5 reasons to choose physiotherapy over general medicine

Below, I tell you the 5 reasons why physical therapy is better if you give it a “try”. You can avoid knee pain and the following effects:

1- There are no lasting side effects.

2- It gets to the very root of knee pain to stop it, it does not hide it.

3- It does not deceive you with a false sensation.

4- You do not depend on the physiotherapist for months or years.

5- The effects of physiotherapy do NOT disappear four hours after the session.

You just have to give it a try, give it a chance. With this you will be able to see the good results that physiotherapy offers for knee and muscle pain in general. And you will see how it is the easiest way to end the problem of knee pain. With a few sessions you will begin to notice improvement and you will see how your pain will decrease.
